On November 20th, Pure Nowhere photographer, Jose Lopez, covered Sloppy Jane’s show at Gym Standard, featuring Gary Wilson & The Blind Date.
It’s safe to say that Haley Dahl of Sloppy Jane is one of the most iconic musicians I’ve come across thus far, putting on jaw-dropping “in-your-face” live performances that will leave you speechless. In an interview she did with Pond Magazine, Haley says,
“As a performer, make yourself as vulnerable as you can to a group of people, because they’re so scared they don’t know how to be comfortable within themselves.”
Vulnerable is the the best way I can describe her stage persona: spewing blue goo from her mouth and proceeding to strip naked in front of the crowd, the presentation of Sloppy Jane is raw, honest, and unapologetic. It’s one of those things that makes you wonder what the hell you just walked into, but is extremely powerful and empowering all the same.
If Haley can do that, why do I still get anxiety when a waiter asks me for my order?
Strange, but that’s the first thing that went through my head when I opened the photos from Jose. I hope they empower you to push your boundaries a bit as much as it did for me (even if mine is just confidently telling someone what I would like to eat).
