LA Counter Culture is a Los Angeles based art show dedicated to promoting original teen art and music. On March 11, LA Counter Culture hosted a second show at The Vortex, a converted warehouse just south of downtown LA. A number of bands performed, including The Ombrés, Sitting on Stacy, Murky Blue, and The Blank Minds.
The walls of The Vortex were covered in photographs, paintings and pottery created by local teen artists. Other teen artists sold handmade earnings and pins. The stand out vendor was the ‘make your own’ pin station! Teeny Bopper Magazine came to spread the word about their zine, one that was created to rebel against magazines such as Tiger Beat and J-14. LA Counter Culture’s, Sophia, just announced two more events—another music and art festival on May 6th which will focus on art and music.
LA Counter Culture is also teaming up with The Blank Minds this summer to bring you Sunnyside Club Fest, “a music festival dedicated to promoting local artists and creating a scene for all.” If you are a musician, artist, poet, or film maker who would like to participate, check out http://sunnysideclubfest.weebly.com/ for more information!
